Antique Japanese Military Anglo-Japanese Alliance Pewter Tea Cup SaucerThis is an antique Japanese tea cup saucer (chataku) made with pewter and designed with two flags on each side one is the Japanese flag and one is the Union Jack. This is probably to celebrate the Anglo Japanese alliance signed in 1906, or perhaps the visit of the crown princes of each country visiting the other (Hirohito in 1921, future Edward VIII in 1922). Condition: Excellent some minor surface wear Size: 4. 75" long x 3" wide

and a flag

There's a maker's mark embossed at the base

and cherry blossoms with a poem in the center

The exterior of the cup is embossed with the word "Love" in the base - this is the first of two words that forms the phrase "patriotism"

The saucer is made with pewter

decorated with a kiri of the 3-5-3 leaves variety

The soldier's name Shibuya is also on the exterior

5" tall x 2" across

The words in black on the back are "Discharge Commemoration" and there's the letters "NY" embossed in the center - probably the maker's mark

decorated with a flag and cherry blossoms

although modern maps don't seem to have this place anymore
