Antique Japanese Military Personal Carry Infantry Army Sake CupThis is an antique Japanese military sake cup, decorated with a flag and cherry blossoms. The words on the back are "70th Infantry Leaving the Service Commemoration" and the soldier's name Okada. There's a hole in the bottom this was by design and was meant so that you can carry the cup around with you hanging from a string so you're ready to drink wherever you are! Condition: Mint Size: 2" across

There's a name Fukumoto on the bottom

and was the main port of the Qing Beiyang fleet

The words under the tower are "North China Patrol Commemoration" and on the ribbon "14th Destroyer Squadron" - quite possibly a reference to the initial attack on China in 1937 when it was referred to as the "North China Incident"

The words are "Cavalry 20th Regiment" and the soldier's name Oka in the back

The image is that of the "Honoring Loyal Tower" set up on the top of the Baiyu (White Jade) hill in Port Arthur

This was presumably a commemorative cup for a unit that served time as part of the North China garrison that also fought in the Russo Japanese War of 1904-5

The saucer is made with pewter

I'm not entirely sure what this was for - but this would be a very early period in Japanese military aviation

The exterior of the cup is in the shape of a helmet with an embossed plane in the center on the back as a base

The flag is a signal unit flag

decorated with an anti-aircraft gun

one of which is the flag of a puppet state of Republic of China from around 1937-1940
